  • NEWSBYTE: U.S. CPSC Seeks to Extend Data Collection Requirements for Electrical Toys Print Page Tell Friend

    July 2009 (09NB-206)

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is seeking comments regarding its plan to extend the collection of certain data from manufacturers and importers of toys and other children’s articles.

In a Notice published in the July 8, 2009 issue of the Federal Register, the CPSC seeks to extend its authority to collect information from manufacturers and importers of certain electrically operated children’s toys. The information includes the results of safety testing, as detailed in 16 CFR Part 1505, Requirements for Electrically Operated Toys or Other Electrically Operated Articles Intended for Use by Children.

Specifically, the CPSC’s data collection requirements apply to toys, games, and other children’s articles that are powered by electrical current from a nominal 120 volt circuit. Video games and articles designed primarily for use by adults are not subject to the data collection regulations.

The CPSC’s current authority to collect such information is set to expire on September 30, 2009. Comments on the proposed extension are due to the CPSC not later than September 8, 2009.

The complete text of the CPSC’s Notice as published in the Federal Register is available at http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2009/pdf/E9-16011.pdf
